Without Gilmour's Ram's Head Big Muff, the Blues Junior IV must generate all the saturation: engage the onboard 'FAT' boost and push preamp gain to 9 for maximum sustain. The Les Paul's humbuckers provide extra thickness compared to a Stratocaster, so mids are pushed to 8 and treble is tempered to 5 to emulate the smooth, vocal Hiwatt character without harshness. Adding an external vintage-spec fuzz pedal later lets you run the Blues Jr clean (gain around 3) to nail the true studio tone.
