01Boss DS-1 Distortion (or any high-gain distortion)
RECOMMENDED — not owned. The Frontman 15G cannot produce the gain saturation or EQ sculpting this tone requires. A high-gain distortion pedal is mandatory.
The Randall RG100ES is a high-gain solid-state head with parametric/graphic EQs carving a pronounced scoop; the Frontman 15G has minimal gain headroom and only bass/treble controls. Gain pushed to 10 on the amp alone will not reach the saturation depth — a distortion pedal is non-negotiable. Bass raised +1 to compensate for the Frontman's naturally scooped voicing. Mid set to 3 (minimum) to approximate the original's extreme mid-cut via external EQs. The Les Paul's humbuckers are higher-output than the Bill Lawrence pickup, so even with gain maxed, the note definition will be tighter.
