RECOMMENDED — not currently owned (run DS-2 into SansAmp into JC-40 clean)
The JC-40 is an ultra-clean, transparent solid-state amp with zero natural tube breakup, whereas Kurt's raw sound relied heavily on cascading dirt pedals into a ragged Fender Quad Reverb. Using only your amp today, turn the JC-40's built-in Distortion knob to 8, pull Treble back to 4 to prevent the JC's bright tweeters from buzzing, and keep the Bright switch off. Once you acquire a DS-2 or SansAmp, switch to the pure clean input with Distortion off to let the pedals provide authentic In Utero grit.
