Why these settings

Per double-gain prevention, the DS-1 handles all saturation, so the Orange Crush 12 gain is dialed down to 2 to keep the preamp clean. Orange solid-state amps naturally have a warm, dark low-mid emphasis, so bass is restrained at 5 while mids and treble are pushed to 7 to replicate Kurt's aggressive, biting live cut without turning fizzy. The Crush 12 faceplate has no presence or reverb knobs, so those are nulled.

PRO TIPUse an aggressive, digging-in downstroke attack right near the bridge saddles to get that raspy, clattering transient bite that defines the main opening riff.
