Rockin in the free world amp settings — Boss Gt-1
The Neil young guitar tone for “Rockin in the free world”, dialed in for a Boss Gt-1 with a Dean zelinsky LaVoce. Studio electric version, Freedom (1989) — main opening riff and heavy chorus rhythm
1953 Gibson Les Paul 'Old Black' (bridge Firebird mini-humbucker) -> 1959 Fender 5E3 Tweed Deluxe cranked via motorized Whizzer control -> Fender outboard spring reverb

01FX1 (Compressor block)
Direct in front of the amp model to emulate natural 5E3 power-tube sag and bloom
02OD/DS (Natural OD block)
Used as a clean mid-push into the Tweed amp block to mimic Neil's microphonic Firebird pickup output
Neil's tone comes from a 1959 5E3 Tweed Deluxe pushed to near meltdown by high-output pickups and the motorized Whizzer system. On the GT-1, select the T-AMP model with Gain at 8 and use the internal Natural OD block set as a boost to push the front-end into that signature ragged, borderline-fuzz territory without getting muddy. Keep Bass at 7 to capture the loose speaker thump while pushing Treble to 7 to replicate the piercing bridge Firebird pickup bite. Clean verse: roll guitar volume knob down to 6 to clean up the tweed breakup.
