01Boss GE-7 Graphic EQ (or similar)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This V-curve EQ is the defining element of the MOP tone. Place after amp input or in FX loop if available. Without this pedal, the tone will lack the characteristic thrash scoop.
02Boss MT-2 Metal Zone (or high-gain distortion)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. The Gigkit Max is a practice amp that cannot produce Mark IIC+ saturation on its own. A dedicated high-gain pedal is mandatory to approach this tone. Set amp to clean channel with gain at 2-3 when using this pedal.
The Gigkit Max is a low-wattage practice unit with no high-gain voicing—it cannot replicate Mark IIC+ saturation alone. Your Strat's single coils are also the opposite of Hetfield's hot EMG 81; they output roughly 40% less signal and have a brighter, thinner character. Without a high-gain distortion pedal and an EQ pedal for the V-curve scoop, this tone is unobtainable on your current rig. The amp settings above assume you acquire both recommended pedals; if using amp alone, max the gain and accept a significantly cleaner, thinner result.
