Why these settings

Your Laney LH50 is a British-voiced EL34 head similar in architecture to the JCM800—both are single-channel, master-volume designs with aggressive upper-mids. The Les Paul Classic's hotter Burstbucker/490 pickups have more midrange saturation than the Explorer's Dirty Fingers, so I dropped mids to 2 (original was 3) and pulled bass to 5 to prevent mud. Treble stays at 7; presence at 7 gives the Laney's tighter power section enough sizzle without fizz.

PRO TIPHetfield's attack on this track is all aggressive downpicking with the pick angled slightly toward the bridge—this adds the percussive 'chunk' that defines the tone more than any knob setting.
