01Tube Screamer (TS9 or clone)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This is ESSENTIAL for this tone. The Twin Reverb has zero high-gain capability; a TS alone won't get you there. You need a proper high-gain distortion pedal.

Drive 8 · Tone 6 · Level 7

02Boss DS-1 or ProCo RAT

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Stack this AFTER the TS for tightness + saturation. The TS tightens the low end, the DS-1/RAT provides the actual gain. Without a dirt pedal, this tone is impossible on a clean Fender.

03Noise Gate (Boss NS-2 or similar)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Critical for tight stops between chugs; high-gain through a Fender will be noisy.

Why these settings

This is a brutal mismatch. The original uses a high-gain Mesa Rectifier; you have a pristine clean Fender Twin with single-coil pickups. The Twin has no preamp distortion and stays clean even at max volume. Amp gain is set to 0 because the pedals must provide ALL the dirt—the Twin's job is to amplify cleanly. I raised mids +1 from a typical Rectifier scoop because the Twin is already mid-scooped and your single coils are thin. Without purchasing at minimum a high-gain distortion pedal, you cannot achieve this tone.

PRO TIPTune to Drop C# (C# G# C# F# A# D#) if your strings can handle it—the original riff relies on that low C# for the percussive chugs. If you stay in standard or Drop D, transpose the riffs up. Pick hard directly over the bridge pickup with your palm firmly muting for that aggressive, staccato attack.
