The Hot Rod DeVille is scooped and bright where the Plexi is mid-punchy, so mids are pushed to 8 (vs Page's ~7) and treble is dropped to 6 to avoid ice-pick highs from the Strat's single coils. Your Strat's lower output and brighter voice vs Page's Les Paul humbucker means gain goes up +1 and you need the recommended drive pedal to achieve the thick sustain—the DeVille's clean headroom won't break up enough on its own at reasonable volumes.
