01MXR Dookie Drive
Scoop switch OFF (full position, not scooped). Internal crunch gain trim pot turned up as you noted — this adds the cascaded gain stage character. The Dookie pedal IS the amp tone; let it do the work.
Your MXR Dookie pedal replicates the exact modified Plexi circuit from the album, so it becomes your primary gain source — set the Laney's gain at 2 to keep it as a clean platform and avoid mud from double-stacking distortion. The Laney LX35R has a darker, less mid-present voicing than a Plexi, so I pushed mids to 6 and treble to 6 to compensate.
