The Hot Rod Deluxe IV has a naturally bright top end and scooped mids, so treble and presence are rolled back sharply while mids are pushed to replicate Johnson's famously dark Marshall Super Lead EQ (treble and presence at zero). The Wampler Dracarys acts as the sole gain source into the amp's clean channel; its 3-band EQ is dialed with boosted mids and cut treble in Open mode to smooth out high-gain fizz into a liquid lead voice. Rolling the PRS bridge tone knob down to 6 rounds off the sharp humbucker transients to achieve Eric's iconic violin-like attack.
