Why these settings

The original was a tiny Champ dimed — all saturation came from power tube compression at low wattage. Your Classic 30 is a 30W EL84 amp that stays cleaner longer, so gain goes to 7 (not 10) to hit preamp breakup without mud. Treble stays high (8) because the Classic 30's voicing is warmer than a Champ; bass drops to 3 to match Clapton's 'bass all the way down' setting. Without an overdrive pedal, you'll get close but lack that spongy Champ compression.

PRO TIPClapton attacked the strings hard with his fingers (no pick on many Layla passes) to push the amp into saturation dynamically — dig in on accents, lighten up for cleans. The tone lives in the hands as much as the amp.
