Why these settings

The THR10II's HI GAIN channel is Marshall-voiced but more compressed than a real Variac'd Plexi. Original had all knobs dimed, but the THR saturates faster — gain 8 avoids fizz while retaining articulation. Mids boosted to 6 (vs EVH's dimed 10) because the THR's mid frequency is higher and can get honky. Bass at 5 prevents mud through the small speaker. Your Pacifica's Alnico V humbucker is lower output than a hot-wound PAF, so gain stays high to compensate.

PRO TIPEVH's secret was volume knob dynamics — practice rolling your guitar volume to 6-7 for cleaner rhythm parts, then slam it to 10 for leads. The brown sound breathes with your hands, not just the amp settings.
