01MXR EVH Phase 90
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; essential for the signature harmonic sweep throughout the tapping section
02Marshall-in-a-Box / High-Gain Distortion (e.g. MXR EVH 5150 Overdrive)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; required to reach authentic Brown Sound saturation into a clean Fender platform
A Fender Deluxe Reverb is inherently scooped with glassier highs and cannot reach high-gain Brown Sound saturation on its own, so cranking its volume provides natural power-tube crunch while Treble is rolled back to 5 to tame single-coil bridge bite. Note that the Deluxe Reverb faceplate has only Volume, Treble, and Bass (no dedicated Mid or Presence controls). With the recommended high-gain MIAB distortion pedal added, switch the amp volume down to 3 for a clean pedal platform.
