Why these settings

Because a Tube Screamer is engaged out front, the VT40X preamp gain is dialed back to 2 on the high-gain DOUBLE REC amp model to prevent mud. The TS9 cuts sub-bass flub before the modeling stage, while setting amp bass to 7 and mids to 4 achieves the classic late-90s Texas slam death metal scoop without getting lost in the mix. The VT40X does not have a physical presence knob, so it is omitted.

PRO TIPDevourment recorded this in B Standard (B-E-A-D-F#-B) with heavy string tension; tune down to B standard and use heavy, locked-wrist downpicking right near the bridge saddles for authentic slam percussiveness.
