Why these settings

The Hot Rod Deluxe is a mid-scooped, clean-headroom Fender — it naturally lacks the Marshall JMP-1's aggressive midrange grind. I've pushed bass to 7 (vs original's 6.5) to compensate for the Fender's tighter low-end, dropped mids to 3 to match the scooped character, and maxed the Drive channel's gain. Without a fuzz pedal, you'll get a crunchy rock tone but miss the synthy, almost octave-up grit that defines Carpenter's sound — the fuzz is non-negotiable for authenticity.

PRO TIPTune to Drop C# (C#-G#-C#-F#-A#-D#) and palm-mute hard right at the bridge saddles — the percussive, almost staccato attack is half the tone. Your RG's DiMarzio Air Norton/Tone Zone pickups are hotter than a JB, so if it gets muddy, roll tone knob to 6 and pick closer to the bridge.
