The Blues Junior IV is a low-wattage Fender tube combo that cannot reach the modern high-gain saturation of a cranked Marshall JMP-1 on OD2 by itself. Engaging the onboard FAT boost and pushing preamp Volume to 9 provides maximum analog breakup today, while cutting bass to 4 prevents the 12-inch open-back cabinet from flubbing on drop C# palm mutes. Adding an external high-gain distortion pedal into the clean input will instantly close the gap to Stephen's wall-of-sound studio tone.
