The original ES-335 with PAF humbuckers is warmer and fuller than your Clapton Strat's Lace Sensors. Compensate by using the neck pickup with the tone rolled to 6 and volume at 7—this softens the single-coil brightness and approximates the humbucker's rounder attack. Bass dropped from the reference 6 to 4 because single coils lack the low-end push of a semi-hollow, and the Deluxe Reverb's smaller speaker gets muddy faster than the Twin's 2x12.
