The Hot Rod DeVille has a naturally scooped mid-range and bright top-end compared to Tony Iommi's cranked Laney Supergroup, so the mids are pushed heavily to 8 while keeping bass lean to mimic a treble booster's low-end cut. Using the Stratocaster's bridge single-coil provides the requisite bite, but rolling the guitar tone knob down to 8 takes off excessive single-coil glass to mimic the fatter P-90 response. Since no pedals are owned, engaging the More Drive mode provides the core vintage distortion from the amp alone.
