RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential to this tone. The Rangemaster cuts bass and pushes mids into the amp, creating Iommi's signature grind. Without it, the tone will be too full and lack bite.
The Hot Rod DeVille is naturally scooped and bright compared to the thick, mid-forward Laney Supergroup. Mids pushed to 8 to compensate for the Fender scoop; bass dropped to 3 because the DeVille's low end is already full and Iommi ran bass at 0. Treble pulled back to 5 since the Music Man's humbuckers are brighter and hotter than Iommi's P90s. A treble booster pedal is critical—the Rangemaster was half of this tone.
