The Frontman 10G is a small solid-state practice amp with limited headroom and a scooped Fender voicing. Cantrell's Bogner Fish preamp had rich mids and controlled saturation—your amp cannot replicate that saturation cleanly, so gain stays moderate at 4 to avoid fizzy breakup. Bass pushed to 6 compensates for the Frontman's thin low-end. Rolling your SG's volume to 8 and tone to 6 darkens the humbucker output to approximate the murky, submerged quality of the original. Without a phaser, you will not achieve this tone—it is not optional.
