Bleed Me an Ocean amp settings — Fender Mustang LT25

The Acid Bath guitar tone for “Bleed Me an Ocean”, dialed in for a Fender Mustang LT25 with a Fever Stratocaster. Studio version, Paegan Terrorism Tactics (1996)

Original rig

Sammy Duet and Mike Sanchez used high-gain tube amps typical of NOLA sludge — Marshall JCM800s, Peavey 5150s, and Mesa Rectifiers into 4x12 cabs, with guitars tuned to C# standard or lower. Duet has been documented using Crowbar-style rig setups (he played in Crowbar) with Boss HM-2 and various fuzz/distortion pedals for that chainsaw sludge saturation.

Massively saturated, downtuned sludge with thick low-mids, grinding distortion, and slow doom weight — aggressive yet murky

Essential for high-gain sludge — tames hum between riffs

Threshold 6

02Boss HM-2 style distortion (RECOMMENDED — not owned)

RECOMMENDED — The HM-2 'chainsaw' tone is signature NOLA sludge. A Behringer HM300 clone ($30) gets you there. Without this, push amp gain to max and accept a cleaner sludge.

Why these settings

Your Mustang LT25 is a modeling amp — select the METAL 2000 model (Rectifier-style voicing) for the closest match to the saturated sludge sound. Your Strat's single coils are the opposite of what Acid Bath used (downtuned humbuckers), so bass is pushed to 8 to compensate for the thinner low-end, and treble is cut to 4 to reduce the Strat's natural brightness and ice-pick frequencies. Rolling the tone knob to 6 further darkens the single coil toward humbucker territory.

PRO TIPDetune your Strat to D standard (D-G-C-F-A-D) minimum — the song is in C# standard, but going too low on a Strat with light strings will turn to mush. Use your heaviest available strings (.011+ ideally) and pick directly over the neck pickup area for a thicker attack, even with the bridge pickup selected.
