The Blackstar Fly 3 has no mid or presence controls — its fixed voicing is naturally mid-forward, which helps here. The Squier HSS humbucker is lower-output than Hickey's SD JB, so gain is maxed at 9 to compensate. Bass is cut to 4 (vs original 5.5) because the Fly 3's tiny speaker exaggerates low-end muddiness at high gain. Treble at 5 prevents the Strat's naturally bright voice from turning fizzy. The missing chorus pedal means you lose the subtle texture — the raw distorted tone is still intact.
