Someday amp settings — Headrush Prime

The The Strokes guitar tone for “Someday”, dialed in for a Headrush Prime with a Fender Jaguar. Studio version, Is This It (2001)

Original rig

Fender Stratocaster (bridge pickup) / Epiphone Riviera P-94 (bridge) → Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde V1 (overdrive side) or Boss DS-1 → Fender Hot Rod DeVille 212 set to 'everything at 7' with minimal reverb

Bright, jangly, lo-fi crunch with percussive attack — clean amp pushed to edge of breakup by a light overdrive, dry and forward in the mix

Use Headrush's Tube Screamer model — low drive, high level to push the amp into light grit without heavy saturation. This replicates the Jekyll & Hyde / DS-1 role on the original.

Why these settings

The Jaguar's shorter scale and brighter single coils approximate the Strat's bite but with slightly more jangle — roll tone to 8 to tame the extra high-end fizz vs a Strat. The Hot Rod DeVille model in Headrush is the direct match; gain stays low (4) because the overdrive block provides the push. Presence dropped to 5 vs the original's 6 to compensate for the Jaguar's inherent brightness. Reverb is 0 — The Strokes recorded bone-dry for that forward, in-your-face garage sound.

PRO TIPPick close to the bridge with downstrokes and a medium-stiff pick angled slightly — The Strokes' percussive attack comes from aggressive pick placement more than gain. Let the notes breathe; palm-mute lightly on the low strings during the verse riff to get that tight, choppy feel.
