01Noise Gate (ISP Decimator or Boss NS-2)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for Drop A palm mutes — the silence between chugs defines this tone. Without a gate, the low tuning will create unwanted string noise and mud.

Threshold 7 · Decay 3
Why these settings

The MG15R is a solid-state practice amp with limited gain and headroom compared to the 100W+ tube heads on the original. Gain is maxed to compensate for the lower saturation ceiling. Mids are scooped harder (3 vs original's 4-5) because the MG15R's mid voicing is already flat and needs extra cut to achieve the 'surgical' scoop. The MG15R lacks presence and resonance controls, so treble is pushed to 8 to add pick attack clarity. Bass is set to 7 rather than the original's 8 to prevent the small 8-inch speaker from farting out in Drop A.

PRO TIPYour LTD M-201B has passive humbuckers which are lower output than the EMGs used on the original — dig in hard with your pick and use a very light palm mute position (barely touching the strings at the bridge saddles) to get that percussive 'djent' attack without losing note definition. If you cannot get a noise gate, mute aggressively with your fretting hand between hits.
