Why these settings

Paul Gray tracked with high-output triple-coil/active pickups into driven Peavey/SansAmp preamps, tuned to Drop B (B-F#-B-E). On your passive Jazz Bass, run both pickups wide open to capture bridge growl and neck low-end punch, while pushing ToneX mids (around 700Hz–1kHz) and gain to mimic the aggressive SansAmp tube grit. Keep treble elevated to reproduce the metallic top-end clank without washing out the fundamental.

PRO TIPUse a thick, stiff pick (1.5mm–2.0mm like a Dunlop Jazz III) and strike forcefully near the bridge pickup to generate the signature percussive string clank against the frets.
