RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This is the critical element of Kerry King's tone. The 'upside-down V' shape boosts mids while keeping lows and highs neutral. Without this pedal, push amp mids to maximum and accept a less saturated front-end.
The HB-20mfx is a small solid-state practice amp with limited gain saturation compared to Kerry's cranked 2203KK. Compensate by maxing the mid control at 9 (Kerry runs mids at 8 on his Marshall but uses an external EQ to push them further — you lack that pedal, so the amp must do all the work). Bass stays conservative at 4 to avoid flub on a small speaker. Your R-466 has passive humbuckers vs Kerry's hot EMGs, so gain goes to 8 instead of his 6-7 to achieve similar saturation.
