01Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for chorus and solo sections. Use Mode I (orange) for tighter response. Without this pedal, crank amp gain to 7-8 for an approximation, but you will lose note definition.
The Rockburn G-10 is a small solid-state practice amp with limited headroom and a brighter, thinner voicing than Frusciante's Marshall Major. I pushed mids to 7 and bass to 6 to compensate for the G-10's naturally scooped, thin character. Treble at 4 prevents ice-pick highs that small solid-state amps produce. Without the DS-2, this amp cannot replicate the chorus/solo crunch authentically — the gain stage is too fizzy when pushed.
