01EHX Big Muff Pi (or clone)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Essential for this tone. Budget options: EHX Big Muff (current production), Donner Dark Mouse, JOYO Voodoo Octave. Without this, the tone is unobtainable.
02Flanger or Chorus
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. EHX Electric Mistress, Boss BF-3, or budget Donner Jet Convolution. Adds the swirling character. Can skip for the 'dry' aggressive section at 5:34.
03Delay
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Set to ~370ms. Boss DD-3, TC Electronic Flashback, or budget Donner Yellow Fall. Critical for the spacious lead sound.
The MG15 is mid-forward like Marshalls but lacks the Hiwatt's clean headroom and articulation. I pushed mids to 7 to compensate for the Big Muff's mid-scoop, and kept treble at 5 to avoid the MG's tendency toward fizz. Without a Big Muff, this tone cannot be authentically achieved — the amp's overdrive alone will sound thin and buzzy rather than singing and compressed. The gain at 6 provides sustain but relies on a Muff for the actual fuzz character.
