RECOMMENDED — essential for Gilmour's singing sustain; without this, the tone will lack the harmonic bloom and compression. EHX Big Muff Pi or Nano Big Muff are affordable options. Run into amp's cleanest setting if acquired.

RECOMMENDED — set delay time to ~440ms (dotted eighth feel at ~120bpm). Boss DD-3 or TC Electronic Flashback are solid choices. Without delay, the solo loses its spacious, ethereal quality.

Why these settings

The Sonicake Ampcube is a practice/modeling unit with limited headroom and simplified EQ. I've pushed mids to 7 (vs typical Hiwatt ~5) because small digital amps tend toward scooped voicing. Gilmour's tone relies heavily on a Big Muff into a CLEAN amp—without the Big Muff, you'll need to use the amp's gain, which won't replicate the smooth fuzz sustain. The John Mayer Strat's Big Dipper pickups are slightly hotter than Gilmour's SSL-1s, so treble stays conservative at 5.

PRO TIPRoll your guitar's tone knob to 7 and use the NECK pickup exclusively for this solo—Gilmour's signature 'woman tone' singing quality comes from the neck pickup's rounded attack combined with fuzz compression. Pick closer to the neck for even warmer sustain, and use slow, wide vibrato from the wrist, not fingers.
