01Electro-Harmonix 'Ram's Head' Big Muff Pi
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; essential for the singing fuzz sustain
02MXR Dyna Comp
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned; place before or after fuzz to even out pick attack and extend sustain
The Hartke HD50 is an ultra-clean, flat-response solid-state bass combo with only Volume, Bass, Mid, and Treble controls (no drive channel, gain knob, or reverb). Because the amp cannot generate distortion on its own, it acts as a neutral clean pedal platform; rolling the Strat tone knob to 7 prevents the bridge pickup from sounding harsh through the aluminum-cone driver. To achieve Gilmour's signature sustain, an external fuzz like a Ram's Head Big Muff is required. First solo: switch to the neck pickup with the tone knob rolled to 6.
