RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This pedal is CRITICAL to the Walk tone. The V-curve scoop (boost lows and highs, cut mids at 400-800Hz) is half the sound. Run it BEFORE the amp input, gain boosted. Without this, you cannot authentically replicate the tone.

Why these settings

Your Peavey Express 112 is a tube combo with more natural compression than Dimebag's surgical solid-state Randall — the Randall's tight, unforgiving transient response is a key part of the tone. Compensate by keeping mids lower than you'd expect (3 instead of 5) to approximate the scooped V-curve, and run gain high (8) since the Peavey's saturation is softer. Without the MXR EQ pedal, you're missing the biggest tone-shaping element — the amp's EQ alone cannot replicate that aggressive mid-scoop.

PRO TIPDimebag tuned to D standard, a quarter-step flat (~D♭ standard). Palm-mute HARD directly over the bridge saddles, not further up the strings — his attack point was precise. Pick with the shoulder of the pick angled slightly for that grinding chunk, and keep your fretting hand muting ALL unused strings to maintain dead silence between hits.
