01MXR Six-Band Graphic EQ (M109)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This pedal is essential to Dimebag's tone. The V-curve scoop (cut 400-800Hz, boost lows and highs) is half the sound. A Boss GE-7 is a cheaper alternative.
02Noise Gate (ISP Decimator or Boss NS-2)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Dimebag's dead-silent stops between riff stabs require a gate. Without it, you lose the signature tightness. Run before amp input.
The Blackstar HT Club 40 is a tube amp, so it compresses transients more than Dimebag's solid-state Randall. Set ISF fully CCW to get the tightest, most American voicing possible. Mid at 3 (vs typical 5) compensates for the Blackstar's naturally warmer British-leaning EQ center. Without the MXR EQ pedal, you cannot fully replicate the scooped V-curve — the amp EQ alone won't cut 400-800Hz surgically enough. The Jackson's high-output humbuckers will push the preamp hard; gain at 8 is appropriate.
