01Zoom G1X Four — Amp Model Block

MS1959 gets closest to Randall's tight, aggressive response. Metal-specific models like ENGL or 5150-style (if available) work too.

Amp Type MS1959 or FD TWNR pushed hard · Gain 8 · EQ Lo 7 · EQ Mid 3 · EQ Hi 8

02Zoom G1X Four — ZNR (Noise Reduction)

Essential for tight palm mutes and eliminating hum at high gain. Dimebag used rackmount noise gates.

Threshold 6 · Decay 4

03Zoom G1X Four — Graphic EQ Block

Scoop mids around 400-800Hz, boost presence at 3.2kHz for cut. Dimebag's signature mid-scoop came from stacked EQs.

800Hz 3 · 1.6kHz 4 · 3.2kHz 7 · 100Hz 6 · 6.4kHz 6
Why these settings

The Cort G110's ceramic humbuckers have less output than Dimebag's Bill Lawrence L-500XL, so gain is kept at 8 rather than the original's ~8.5 to avoid fizz. Mid scooped to 3 (original was 4) because the Zoom's EQ voicing is already slightly mid-forward vs the Randall's naturally tight, scooped solid-state response. Treble pushed to 8 for that razor attack. No presence knob exists on the G1X Four's amp models—use the EQ block's 3.2kHz instead.

PRO TIPDimebag's pick attack was crucial—use a heavy pick (1mm+), angle it slightly, and hit the strings hard directly over the bridge pickup pole pieces for that percussive chunk. Palm mute lightly and let the amp's compression do the work.
