Slowly we rot amp settings — Fender Mustang LT25

The Obituary guitar tone for “Slowly we rot”, dialed in for a Fender Mustang LT25 with a Jackson Pro Series King V. Studio version, Slowly We Rot (1989) — recorded at Morrisound Recording, Tampa FL with Scott Burns

Original rig

Marshall JCM800 50-watt head, ProCo Rat distortion pedal (tone rolled down), Fender Strat with EMG 81 humbucker in bridge, Marshall 1960 4x12 cab. Trevor Peres used standard tuning, tone knob rolled back on guitar, Rat stacked into amp overdrive.

Thick, murky, mid-forward death metal chug with lo-fi grit — lacks modern high-gain clarity, intentionally raw and punchy with rolled-off highs

Why these settings

Original used a JCM800 with a Rat pedal stacking — the Mustang LT25's Metal 2000 model approximates that saturated Marshall-into-Rat thickness. Treble kept low and bass maxed per the original recipe. The LT25 has no presence knob. Your Jackson's passive humbuckers are hotter than the original Strat body but close to the EMG output — no gain compensation needed.

PRO TIPThe defining Obituary trick is rolling the guitar's tone knob to 4-5 — this is how Trevor Peres got that murky, vowel-like chug without fizz. Pick hard directly over the bridge pickup pole pieces for maximum chunk.
