Why these settings

The Squier SP-10 is a basic solid-state practice amp with limited EQ range and no channel switching — it cannot replicate Mesa tube compression, so the DS-1 does all the heavy lifting. Cobain's original rig used the Mesa preamp clean with the DS-1 as the dirt source, which is exactly how you should run this. Your Strat has single coils vs his JB humbucker, so the DS-1 Dist is dropped from 10 to 7 to prevent ice-pick highs, and amp treble is conservative at 6. Mid pushed to 7 to compensate for the SP-10's naturally scooped voice.

PRO TIPThe verse-to-chorus dynamic IS the song — practice clicking the DS-1 on exactly as the drums hit.
