01Boss DS-1 Distortion
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. This is NON-NEGOTIABLE for the tone; the amp stays clean and the DS-1 provides all the grit. A DS-1 clone or Behringer OD300 gets you there for under $30.
02Electro-Harmonix Small Clone Chorus (or any analog chorus)
RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Used ONLY on clean verse sections; turn OFF when distortion kicks in. A Joyo Classic Chorus or Donner Tutti Love are budget alternatives.
Your Squier CV 60s Strat has vintage-output single coils vs Cobain's hot JB humbucker — you'll need the DS-1's Dist at 7 (not higher) to avoid fizz, and mid pushed to 7 on the Hotone to compensate for the Strat's natural scoop. The Hotone Mini is a low-wattage solid-state unit; keep gain minimal (2) so it stays clean and lets a DS-1 do the work. Without that pedal, you cannot authentically replicate this tone — the distortion IS the sound.
