Why these settings

The Boston G-80 is an unrecognized amp, so knob names on your faceplate may differ. Cobain ran his Mesa completely clean and used the DS-1 as his dirt source — your amp must stay clean with gain at 2-3, otherwise stacking amp gain with a DS-1 creates mud. Your Strat's single-coil bridge is brighter and lower-output than Cobain's JB humbucker, so bass is pushed +1 and treble held neutral to compensate. Presence is nulled as many practice amps lack this control.

PRO TIPCobain's attack was loose and aggressive with a thin .60mm pick — dig in hard on downstrokes and let the DS-1's compression do the sustain work; too precise a picking style loses the sloppy grunge feel.
