Single coils on the Player Strat can get shrill with a cranked DS-1, so Tone is dialed back to 4 with guitar tone at 8 to emulate Kurt's thicker Univox humbucker/P90 output. For the intro noise loop and modulated verses, adding an analog flanger or chorus with high feedback will complete the sound.
