Why these settings

The Pyle starter practice amp is a basic solid-state unit with limited 2-band EQ (no mid control) and a drive channel that cannot achieve authentic early thrash crunch without becoming fizzy. Per double-gain prevention rules, set the amp to its clean channel with gain low (2) and run a recommended ProCo Rat into the front. Keeping bass around 6 prevents the small practice speaker from farting out on palm mutes.

PRO TIPAnchor the heel of your picking hand directly over the bridge saddles and execute aggressive, all-downstroke palm-muted chugs to capture Hetfield's signature percussive attack.
