Why these settings

The Ortega PTWO is a small practice amp with limited headroom and no presence control — all your gain must come from the DS-1, not the amp. I've set amp gain to 2 (just enough to push the DS-1's output cleanly) and scooped the mids to 3 to replicate Hetfield's iconic V-shaped EQ. The DS-1's Dist at 8 with Tone at 6 gives you the aggressive bite without ice-pick fizz. Your Jackson JS32's humbuckers are hotter than Hetfield's original Invaders, so this Dist setting balances out.

PRO TIPHetfield's tone lives in his RIGHT HAND: strict downpicking, palm muting directly over the bridge saddles (not floating above), and hitting the strings hard with a thick pick (1mm+). Tune to Eb standard — the entire album is a half-step down. No amount of EQ fixes sloppy muting; tighten your palm contact before tweaking knobs.
