Why these settings

The Blackstar Debut 15E is a practice amp with limited gain staging compared to the Mark IIC+/JCM800 rig. ISF fully clockwise gives you the tighter British voicing needed for thrash. Mids dropped to 2 to approximate the scoop, but without a graphic EQ pedal the deep V-curve is unobtainable—the amp's 3-band EQ cannot cut 750Hz while boosting 80Hz and 2.2kHz independently. Bass pushed to 7 to compensate for the small 3-inch speakers losing low-end thump.

PRO TIPHetfield's tone lives in his right hand: strict downpicking with the pick angled slightly, palm muting positioned closer to the bridge for maximum tightness. Sloppy alternate picking or loose palm mutes will sound nothing like the record regardless of amp settings. Practice the main riff at half speed with a metronome until every note has identical attack.
