Why these settings

The Pacifica's Alnico single-coil-sized humbucker has significantly lower output than Hetfield's active EMG 81, so amp gain is maxed. ISF is set fully British to push midrange bite closer to the Mesa's aggressive character. Mids are scooped to 2 (vs original's near-zero graphic EQ cut at 800Hz) because the Blackstar's mid control is broader and cutting further would lose too much body. Treble is pulled back from the original's 9 to 7 because the Debut 15e gets fizzy at high treble with high gain.

PRO TIPPalm mute directly over the bridge saddles, not further up the strings—Hetfield's percussive 'chunk' comes from extremely tight muting with the heel of his palm almost touching the bridge plate. Downpick everything; no alternate picking on the main riff.
