Honey Bucket amp settings — Laney LC15R

The Melvins guitar tone for “Honey Bucket”, dialed in for a Laney LC15R with a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazzmaster. Studio version, Houdini (1993)

Original rig

Gibson Les Paul Custom through cranked tube amp (likely Marshall-style or early Mesa), minimal pedals — tone comes from amp gain and Les Paul humbuckers in various pickup positions used as gain staging

Thick, sludgy, mid-heavy crunch with atonal dissonance and aggressive picking attack — not modern high-gain but raw overdriven tube saturation

01Pro Co Turbo RAT

Use to add grit and sustain — Jazzmaster single coils need the RAT to reach Buzzo's sludgy saturation; Filter at 4 keeps it dark and thick without fizz

Distortion 6 · Filter 4 · Volume 7
Why these settings

Buzzo uses Les Paul humbuckers which are hotter and darker than your Jazzmaster single coils — the RAT compensates for the output gap and adds the necessary grit. Laney LC15R is British-voiced Class A, mid-forward like a Vox but warmer; pushed mids to 8 recreates the thick, non-scooped Melvins wall. Tone knob rolled to 6 tames Jazzmaster bridge ice.

PRO TIPBuzzo's picking attack is critical — use aggressive downstrokes with occasional choked upstrokes, and let open strings ring dissonantly against fretted notes. He deliberately lets 'bad notes' sustain for that car-accident chaos.
