The Malcom todd guitar tone for “Earings”, dialed in for a Fender Mustang LT25 with a Ibanez JEM7V Steve Vai. Studio version, Sweet Boy EP (2023) / single cut
Fender Stratocaster (in-between single-coil position) direct into interface / clean Fender tube amp with light compressor and room ambience
| Knob | Setting (0–10) |
|---|---|
| Gain | 3 |
| Bass | 5 |
| Treble | 6 |
| Reverb | 3 |
| Master | 5 |
The Mustang LT25 lacks mid and presence controls on its primary panel, so they are set to null. DiMarzio Evolution humbuckers on the JEM7V have much higher output and mid-focus than the single-coil DI sound on the track, so using the split neck+middle position 4 with volume rolled down to 9 and tone to 8 removes the modern humbucker bite to match the lo-fi indie character.
