01Tube Screamer style (TS9/TS808)
RECOMMENDED – not currently owned. Essential for the mid-push and compression that defines this tone. Run into the clean Twin.
The Twin Reverb shares the high-headroom 6L6 clean platform Mayer uses, but lacks the Dumble/Two-Rock midrange complexity. Pushing mid to 6 compensates. Your PRS humbuckers are hotter and warmer than Mayer's low-output single coils, so gain stays at 4 and tone knob rolled to 7 to prevent muddiness. The Tube Screamer is non-negotiable for the singing sustain and mid-hump – without it, the Twin stays too clean and scooped.
