01Dunlop Cry Baby Wah (or any wah)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Park the wah at 60-70% travel (toe partially down) and leave it there. Do not rock it. This creates the nasal mid-frequency honk essential to the intro tone. A used Cry Baby GCB95 costs $40-60 and is the single most important missing piece.

Pedal Position 6

02Any digital delay (Boss DD-3, DD-7, or similar)

RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. Set delay time to ~425ms, 3-4 repeats, mix at 15%. Adds depth to solo sections without cluttering fast runs. A TC Electronic Flashback Mini or Joyo D-SEED are budget options under $50.

Why these settings

The Johnson Standard 15 is a basic solid-state practice amp with limited midrange control and no channel switching — it cannot replicate the Silver Jubilee's natural compression and harmonic richness. Compensate by pushing gain to 7 (higher than Slash's actual 4-5) to generate sustain the amp lacks, and boosting mid to 7 to counter the amp's tendency toward a flat, scooped voicing. Treble dropped to 5 because your PRS's hotter humbuckers will add brightness the Alnico IIs didn't have. Without the cocked wah, you will miss the signature nasal honk entirely — that pedal is non-negotiable for accuracy.

PRO TIPRoll your PRS tone knob to 6 for the intro and solo — this 'woman tone' trick is how Slash got that vocal, singing quality. Your 85/15 pickups are hotter than Slash's Alnico IIs, so the rolled-back tone knob also tames the extra high-end and gets you closer to the original's smoothness.
