Why these settings

The Katana's Lead amp type provides the saturated Marshall-style compression needed for Slash's singing sustain without an external overdrive. The Dean's humbuckers match the output profile well, but rolling the guitar tone knob slightly back to 8 rounds off the top-end bite to emulate Slash's warm neck pickup tone. Presence is set to null to accommodate the Katana 50 panel layout, while mids are pushed to 7 for vocal cut. For the aggressive bridge-pickup solo sections later in the song, flip the guitar pickup selector to the bridge position and roll the tone knob up to 10.

PRO TIPPick with the meat of your thumb slightly grazing the string immediately after the pick strikes (subtle semi-harmonics) to give the arpeggiated intro riff its flute-like, vocal articulation.
