The Catalyst's Crunch channel approximates a pushed Plexi. Your Pacifica's bridge humbucker is lower output than the hot L-500XL (~14kΩ), so gain is pushed to 6 to compensate — the original amp ran 'knobs at 10 o'clock' but had the Dookie mod adding extra gain stages.
