RECOMMENDED — not currently owned. A Boss BD-2 Blues Driver matches the original exactly; a Tube Screamer or EHX East River Drive gets you 80% there for less money. This pedal is essential because the Blues Junior cannot reach punk crunch on its own.
The Blues Junior is a clean-platform amp that breaks up late and warm — the opposite of the modded Marshall's aggressive preamp saturation. Amp gain at 10 gets you edge-of-breakup but not punk crunch; the overdrive pedal is the actual gain source. Mid pushed to 7 compensates for your Strat's scooped single-coil bridge vs the original's mid-forward P-90. Bass dropped to 4 because the Blues Junior's 12" speaker blooms more than the original's tight 4x12 cab.
